Horror Mood Board

Above is a mood board with images relating to the horror genre, that I will look for to inspiration for when I create my products. I have included images from real horror films, ranging from the 1922 German "Nosferatu", to more recent media such as "It" (2017). Both of these films were massive successes, meaning they produced their products skilfully, targeted their demographic successfully and marketed well. The overall aesthetic of my board is very dark, with no bright colours apart from the red background (used to make the black hand more contrasting, and also for its connotation with blood and danger), and the light from the candles (which gives a spooky, old fashioned aura). Those with religious connotations, such as the cross, gives the impression of graveyards and death which is common among the horror genre.  Across my mood board, you can see extensive use of lighting and shadowing, which creates an aura of the hidden, night time and elusiveness. I will refer to these frequently when creating my own trailer, poster and magazine cover, in order to create something in keeping with the genre and conventions.
